Zero-Tolerance Drug & Alcohol Policy
Updated October 20, 2026
Halen has a zero-tolerance policy on drug and alcohol use by drivers. Drivers may not use alcohol or intoxicating drugs while providing Halen services, or drive while impaired by any substance.
This policy applies while a driver is online and available for requests, traveling to a pickup, transporting passengers, making a delivery, or completing an active service.
What is prohibited?
Drivers must not:
- Consume alcohol or use intoxicating drugs while providing services.
- Drive while affected by alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs, or another impairing substance.
- Misuse prescription or over-the-counter medication.
- Drive when medication affects alertness, coordination, judgment, or the ability to operate a vehicle safely.
- Continue accepting requests when they are not fit to drive.
A prescription or lawful access to a substance does not permit impaired driving. Drivers must follow medication warnings and ask a qualified healthcare professional when unsure whether they can drive safely. Drivers who become unfit to drive must stop accepting requests and safely end service.
If you suspect your driver is impaired
- Before pickup: don’t enter the vehicle if you reasonably suspect impairment.
- During a trip: ask the driver to stop at a safe location when it’s safe to do so.
- Once safe: report the concern to Halen.
You don’t need to test the driver, confront them, record them, or complete the trip before reporting.
How to report a concern
| Channel | Contact |
|---|---|
| In-app | Contact Halen support through in-app chat and say you are reporting suspected driver impairment. |
| support@halentech.com Subject: Driver impairment report |
Include the driver’s name, vehicle information, trip date and time, pickup location, and trip reference if available. Describe what you personally observed, such as unsafe driving, consumption of a substance, or difficulty staying alert.
Report what you have even if you can’t identify every detail. A trip rating alone should not replace a direct safety report.
What happens after a report?
When Halen receives a passenger complaint alleging a violation of this policy, Halen will immediately suspend the driver’s access to provide services while it investigates. The suspension stays in place until the investigation is complete.
Halen will review available trip information, the report, the driver’s response, and other relevant evidence. A temporary suspension is a protective measure, not a final finding.
The investigation will consider whether a disability or medical condition, including a speech disability, may have been mistaken for impairment.
A confirmed violation may result in permanent removal from the platform. Halen will make required reports to regulators and cooperate with lawful investigations.
Fair reporting and protection from retaliation
Report concerns honestly and describe observations rather than assumptions. An accent, disability, appearance, or communication difference alone is not proof of impairment.
Halen prohibits retaliation against anyone who makes a good-faith report or takes part in an investigation. A report that can’t be confirmed is not automatically a false report.
